Headteacher Welcome

Welcome to the Looe Community Academy school website. I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the entire school community. My name is Paul Boyes, and it is a privilege and honour to be the Headteacher of Looe Community Academy. I have been a teacher and school leader for over 28 years, starting in the inner-city schools of London, a short stop at a school in Exeter followed by 18 years as a senior leader within the Plymouth context.

My ethos as a Headteacher is to ensure every child, no matter what starting point or background can, under my leadership, strengthen or even transform their lives. They can do this by working hard at school, taking up the opportunities provided to them and by achieving the best outcomes possible once they reach Yr 11.  I genuinely want young people to never want to stop learning and have the agency, confidence and inner belief that they can achieve great things through focused hard work and endeavour. For that to happen, Looe Community Academy will be the school that serves its community well, listens deeply to stakeholders and enacts my vision of having a great teacher in every classroom, supported by great co-professional staff. This school has immense potential, I like the fact it is a small school as every child is known as an individual. This is one of the reasons I fell for the school. The school's core values of Respect, Resilience, and Resourcefulness resonate with my own leadership style, and we have now added a fourth, Kindness, not a soft value, but one that underpins all the Rs. It is important that LCA will always have a broad, balanced curriculum, quality enrichment and personal development opportunities for its students and a focus on the well-being of both the students and staff.

At Looe Community Academy we believe that every person needs to strive to be the ‘best that they can be’- bydh gwella gylli. This is aligned with my own personal life motto, ‘nothing but your best is good enough’. I will make sure that this is the reality as we all strive forward to make this school the best that it can be and more. Over the coming months, I want to meet with parents and students, be out in the primary schools meeting future students and my door is open. We will focus on strengthening and transforming the learning and experience in every classroom as we begin that journey to a great, trusted teacher in every classroom.

I am so looking forward to taking this beautiful school forward, but I need the help of every student, parent, grandparent, and community stakeholders, to ensure we all head together united! A National Leader of Education once taught me, and it has stuck with me ever since, leadership is all about:

  1. People - investing in people makes a school the best that it can be. Be kind, develop people as they are the heart and soul of this school.
  2. Quality - by investing in people, you transform what is happening in a school, so genuine quality is achieved and the outcomes of students increase rapidly.
  3. Community - it takes a whole village to raise a child, and we need to come together, listen deeply, and empower each other to take this school on the improvement journey it and everybody in it, especially the students, deserve.

Therefore, I am so looking forward to leading and driving this school forward. To provide the children of Looe with the best possible school experience so that our motto, ‘be the best that you can be’ is real, lived and experienced by all!

Kind regards

Paul Boyes
