Curriculum Reflection - Dance
The curriculum this year has felt as though it has come off the page and become far more alive, with a stronger emphasis on problem-solving, collaborative group work and creative exploration.
A greater focus on site-specific work, contact work, theatre trips and clear links to professional set work connected to the GCSE specification has brought a sense of challenge, relevance and excitement to students. To enrich this further, I have booked dance artists to work with the classes in January, helping students to make meaningful connections with professional practice.
Alongside this, I have developed a broader range of activities to support students who find it difficult to fully engage in practical lessons. This has made the curriculum more inclusive, ensuring that students of all abilities, experiences and confidence levels can access the learning in a way that suits them. I have also expanded the resources available at the start of each lesson, such as structured warm-ups, literacy support materials and guidance for writing show reports, all of which strengthen students’ understanding and contribute to their wider dance education.
