World Book Day

On Thursday March 5th we celebrated World Book Day in style!

This coincided with our non-uniform day for comic relief so many staff and students took the opportunity to dress up as a character from a book.  World Book Day vouchers were given out to all our KS3 students:  to use for a free book or £1 off a book of their choice.

Behind the scenes, teachers and staff used the day to have important discussions with students about the value of reading, books that they themselves have enjoyed and their own journey with reading.   Tutors led book related activities in the morning and KS3 students had the chance to enter a book character profile competition held by Mrs Jarman.

The day before, some students kindly helped Mrs Guest to make the paper chains needed for her Jacob Marley outfit (providing her a great opportunity to tell KS3 students about the GCSE text ‘A Christmas Carol’ that they will study in a few years).

It was a fun day and hopefully one that reminded us all to keep inspiring, motivating and supporting young people to read.
